ILLUMINATE THE OUTDOORS. ELIMINATE BUGS.
Natural Citronella and Cedarwood tell the bugs to leave, without harming you or the environment. These All Natural Outdoor Tea lights are hand crafted with an exclusive blend of beeswax, soy wax, and the purest essential oils, each tea light will burn for 5 hours. Plus, you can use these to extend the life of a decorative candle outside or if you just need a shorter burn time while you enjoy the outdoors. Don't buy imported, drippy, fast burning, soot producing, petroleum-based, fragrance-infused candles. Buy USA made, EnviroSafe™ tea lights.
GOOD BONUS: Big Dipper donates 5% of the net profits from the sale of these candles to charities that support environmental conservation and pollinator sustainability. Cheap candles from overseas don't do that!
WHAT DOES IT REPLACE?
Paraffin wax candles (those cheap-o grocery store candles) — which are known to give off harmful fumes such as toluene and benzene, both linked to lung cancer and asthma. Paraffin is a by-product of petroleum, a non-renewable resource. Soy candles — without getting into too much here (we'll do a blog post soon), many a soy candle is not 100% soy. Say what? Yep, it only has to be 51% soy to be labeled soy. What's in the other half? Paraffin. More often than not, they are colored and scented with toxic dyes and fragrances. Best to go with scentless candles. Wait, there's more: The problem with soy is most of it is genetically modified to say nothing of the clear cutting that happens to grow soy. Think Amazon Rain Forest. What about the soy in these citronella candles, no worries... pure and sustainably sourced.
BORING (BUT USEFUL) STUFF
Recommended for outdoor use only. For best results burn candle each candle in one lighting.
Beeswax burns clean and purifies the air at the same time! In addition to supporting sustainable beekeeping, the consumption of beeswax candles is also good for the air we breathe. Unlike paraffin candles, which are made with a petroleum-based wax, beeswax candles have a completely clean non-toxic burn and produce negative ions when burning. About Negative Ions:
All natural, biodegradable ingredients: These candles are made from locally sourced (Seattle, WA) 100% beeswax, which undergoes no chemical processing. Wicks are 100% cotton, primed with beeswax, not paraffin. All natural essential oils, and pure, sustainably sourced soy.
Active Ingredients: Citronella Essential Oil 1.7%, Cedarwood Essential Oil .8%. Inactive Ingredients: Beeswax 48.75%, Soy Wax 48.75%.
Printed with vegetable-based inks on 100% recycled paperboard, 50% post-consumer waste. Window film is made with biodegradable, compostable, and recyclable EnviroSafe Acetate.
Here's what BDWW says about the clear plastic votive holders they come in: We use plastic cups made from recycled materials so we can achieve a better burn quality and lower instance of hot burning tea lights. Plastic cups absorb and distribute heat better than glass, porcelain, salt or metal tea light cups, creating a more even and longer lasting burn.
Beeswax sourced locally in Washington for sustainably managed apiaries. All candles manufactured in Seattle, Washington, USA.

They smell great, last long and attract the bugs, which keeps them away from me. We have a ton of small bugs that descend on our sailboat after the sun goes down. I wasn't sure how these tea lights would work, but found that the bugs were quite attracted to them. I'm not sure what would happen with a small to moderate amount of bugs, but our PLENTIFUL bugs were attracted to the candle light and/or smell, and stayed away from us. It made for a candle full of bugs at the end of the night, but I didn't mind because they weren't bothering me.
So nice of you to take the time to describe your experience with the tea lights. The second greatest thing about these candles is that they contain no paraffin—a fossil fuel product. Thanks for being a What's Good customer!
