WHAT DOES IT REPLACE?
Plastic toothbrushes, generally every toothbrush in your house and in everyone's house. 3.5 billion plastic toothbrushes are sold worldwide each year, producing 50 million pounds of waste in the U.S. alone. When they don’t find their way to landfills, many end up in waterways and oceans where maritime animals will confuse them for food (as noted by GreenPanda).
BORING (BUT USEFUL) STUFF
The bristles are said to be "luxuriously soft" however don't worry, they're neither too soft or too stiff, in our opinion.
Mao Zhu bamboo is naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial. After brushing, we recommend a thorough rinse with tap water. Let it air dry, storing it upright in a rack or cup for proper air circulation.
INGREDIENTS
Handle — Mao Zhu bamboo. Bristles — Nylon made from sustainably sourced castor bean plants, allow for the highest standard of hygiene through the ADA’s recommended 3-4 months of use.
NOTE: We know bamboo and nylon may not sound great, however, the only non-bamboo wood alternative has boar bristles (yuck) and not made in the USA. GreenPanda is small business, making a great product using plant based nylon and a highly regenerative resource—manufactured in the USA. Let's support 'em.
DISPOSAL
The bamboo handle is 100% biodegradable; the plant-based nylon bristles are not. We recommend removing the bristles for residential composting. As a whole, the GreenPanda toothbrush is compostable in specific conditions usually offered in a controlled facility. We recommend contacting your local compost facility about eligible items or discarding your toothbrush with your household waste.
You could also find a second life for your toothbrush, such as: add it to your cleaning supplies to scrub with, use it on your dog, remove the bristles and use as kindling when you go camping or whittle it into a sculpture.
