As part of our commitment to being a not-just-for-profit business, What’s Good selects a different charity each quarter and donates a portion of every order we receive.

Our featured charity for August and September is Water.org, an international nonprofit organization that has positively transformed millions of lives around the world with access to safe water and sanitation. Founded by Gary White and Matt Damon, Water.org pioneers market-driven financial solutions to the global water crisis. For more than 30 years, they've been providing families with hope, health and bright futures.

    WHY?

    • 771 million people — 1 in 10 — lack access to safe water.
    • 1.7 billion people — 1 in 4 — lack access to a toilet.
    • More people have a mobile phone than a toilet.
    • Every two minutes a child dies from a water and sanitation-related disease.
    • Nearly 1 million people die each year from water, sanitation and hygiene-related diseases.
    • Women and children bear the primary responsibility for water collection.
    • Women and girls spend 200 million hours every day collecting water. This is time spent not working, caring for family members, or attending school.
    • Women and girls living without a toilet spend 266 million hours every day finding a place to go.
    • Globally, 1 in 3 schools lacks access to basic water and sanitation

    IMPACT
Water.org has had a significant impact on improving the global water crisis. Through its innovative programs and partnerships, Water.org has made a substantial difference in the lives of millions of people:

    • To date in 2023, 58 million people now have access to safe water or sanitation.
    • $4.6 billion in capital mobilized (USD) to provide water and sanitation loans.
    • $12.7 million in loans disbursed to people in need for life-changing safe water and sanitation solutions.
    • 161 active partners (financial institutions, service providers, international agencies, and governments) work with Water.org to make an impact.
    • 98% repayment rate. Every repaid loan means another family in need can get affordable access to safe water at home.
    • $363 average loan size (USD). Small loans can help make a big difference by providing long-term solutions for families in need around the world.
    • 90% of borrowers are women. Women are primarily responsible for household water collection and are solving the water crisis for their families.
    • 89% of households are living under $6.85/day. Water.org is committed to helping people living in poverty get access to safe water and sanitation solutions at home.
