  • Compostable Clear Cups 16oz. - 20 Pack

The Solo Cup of the Eco World.
These compostable 16 oz (453.59g) clear cold cups are made from plants grown in the USA. These disposable cups are great for cold beverages like iced coffee, iced tea, smoothies, and water. Even though they are as light and strong as plastic, these disposable cups fully break down when commercially composted. If your office — or party — is using plastic disposable cups, suggest these. Available in packs of 20.

    BORING (BUT USEFUL) STUFF
These 16 oz cups come in packs of 20 and are
suitable for liquids up to 120°F, freezer safe and compost in 2 to 4 months in a commercial composting facility. Not microwavable. L 3.7" x W 3.7" x H 4.9"

    WHAT DO THEY REPLACE?
Styrofoam cups! Can you believe stores still serve these cups? AND that we as consumers tolerate it? There's not enough time here (watch for blog post) but it's bad stuff: benzene and styrene leach into your foods, it doesn't break down even though it's blown and strewn across the globe and it's highly toxic to make.

Plastic Cups! For example, those ubiquitous red Solo cups are made from #6 thermoplastic polystyrene, a moldable plastic (petroleum) that's cheap to produce but also one of the more difficult plastics to recycle. Many community recycling programs don't accept this type of plastic.

    MATERIALS
NatureWorks Ingeo™ PLA — Polylactic Acid (PLA) is a bio-based plastic derived from renewable resources such as corn starch, tapioca roots or sugarcane. To make PLA, sugar from plants is turned into lactic acid through fermentation which is converted into a polymer. At this stage, it is shaped into pellets which can be transformed into a wide variety of products. Manufacturing PLA produces 75% fewer greenhouse gasses and uses 50% less non-renewable energy than traditional polymers like PET & polystyrene.
