Effective and plastic-free dish soap bar.
Whether it's because you don't have a dishwasher (mine is named Will), or you just have dishes that are too precious for the machine, you need a gentle yet tough soap that will do the hand wash job quickly and effectively. THIS IS SO EASY. Try it, you can suds some up on your sponge or scrubber, or simply let the water run over it and onto your dish or pan or whatever. It's also a good value because it lasts. Plus the lemon scent is subtle enough to use on your wine glasses yet fragrant enough to overpower whatever is in your sink. It's healthy for you, environmentally friendly, and feels good on your hands.

Read What's Good below. You'll never want to schlep liquid soap in plastic bottles home again. Might we suggest pairing your soap with FairTrade rubber gloves?

As you know, we believe in many shades of green. As such it's our goal to offer you a variety of green alternatives. For example, castile soap in a glass jar or a eco-soap in a more traditional plastic jug. For some, using a bar soap may be out of your comfort zone... but if you prefer a good lather, this is a better choice for you over castile soap. We recommend all of these options.

Our hope is that you ditch the Dawn, Joy, and Methods of the world because they're not Earth Friendly. WAIT! Did you just read METHOD is not good for the planet. Yep. Take a moment to surf the EWG site on dish washing soaps, you'll see all of the above score a "D" grade. Even our beloved gateway eco-soap, Method. Each contain Methylisothiazolinone, which represents high concern for aquatic activity let alone its causticity to you. There's so much more to share here, so I'll leave you with this link to check it out for yourself

Each plastic-free Dish Soap puck is 7 oz. [199 g]

To use: Ditch the bulky, slippery plastic bottle with these simple steps:

Place our Dish Soap puck on a soap dish, coaster, or right on the edge of your sink.

Wet your sponge/brush, rub it over your Dish Soap, and wash away.

For those extra dirty items that need a soak - or to fill the entire sink - simply hold the Dish Soap under the faucet while the water is running.

    INGREDIENTS
-[UNSCENTED]: Vegetable Soap [Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Sunflowerate, Glycerin, Water, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Organic Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil]

-[LEMON]: Vegetable Soap [Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Sunflowerate, Glycerin, Water, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Organic Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil], Organic Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil*

*lemon essential oil naturally contains the potential allergen limonene.

If you really want to dig in:
This dish soap uses Coconut and Sunflower Seed Oils (sourced from WI) as the base vegetable oils for the soap. This combination creates a firm bar that lathers and cleans while easily rinsing away.

Sodium Cocoate: This is the chemical name of saponified (that is, 'made into soap') coconut oil. It's the chemical that grabs onto both dirt and water to do the cleaning.

Sodium Sunflowerate: This is the chemical name of the saponified sunflower seed oil.

Glycerin: This substance is chemically a type of alcohol and is naturally created when the oil is converted into soap. Glycerin is known for skin-softening abilities and is an effective solvent, meaning it can dissolve substances such as stains and dirts.

Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil and Organic Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil : There is always some coconut and sunflower seed oils left in the soap after conversion to sodium cocoate and sodium sunflowerate. This is because of sodium hydroxide, or lye, in the conversion process. Leaving these excess oil in the soap not only ensures there is no remaining lye in the finished product, it also gives the soap its lather and moisturizing feel. Some soapmakers refer to this as 'superfatting' and more oil remaining results in a softer, more moisturizing bar.

Water: Water is used in the soap making process as a substance that dissolves lye and then is a medium so the lye can reach all of the oil to react. After being useful in this process, the water is allowed to evaporate from the soap over a period of several weeks, and the resulting dried bar has very little water. There is only about 5% water remaining in the finished bars, thus making them more shelf stable than a liquid soap that would require a preservative due to the high (about 60%) water.

    Meliora Dish Soap Bar

I love this product! While I still use liquid dish soap (which I refill at What's Good), when I have a sinkfull, there are so many times that I have just a few dishes to wash up. Now I just soap up my dish cloth and get them done. Works great when I need to clean up my stove top or counter, too. I bought the lemon scented bar, which has a light pleasant scent that is not overpowering. Definitely will be keeping one of these by my sink from now on!

Whoot! Whoot! Just the kind of response we hope for. We love it but it is so affirming to hear that you are enjoying it, too. Thank you for sharing!

I love this product. I would also add the holder that it sits on. I went to the store and bought more for little party gifts and Jennifer wrapped them for me. In recycled clothes patterns!

Louise! You picked such a cool party gift for your friends. So many of us have enough 'stuff' that a gift like this helps educate and makes for a great conversation. Thank you for choosing us!

    The best!

I'm so glad I found What's Good... & this dish soap! Gets your dishes squeaky clean with no bulky, wasteful plastic bottle. Jennifer is the best- don't hesitate putting in an order!

Wow Kim... FYI Jennifer is blushing right now. Thank you for this mighty compliment. And so glad you like the dish soap!

    So far so good

I’ve been using this for a little over a week and seems to do a good job washing the dishes and I like That I’m only using it the amount of soap that I need to. It’s very convenient!

Nancy, It takes a little getting used to after years of using traditional liquid dish soap. So glad you like it. Sometimes we run it under water to fill a large pot, sometimes we just rub a little on a sponge or scrubbie or brush. Eitherway, it lasts and works! Thank you for being a customer!

    Very nice soap

This is a very nice alternative to regular liquid dish soap. I do find it doesn't cut through grease quite as nice as Dawn, has to be liberally applied. I apply it directly to sponge and scrub my dishes that way. Sometimes, depending on grease level, dish needs to be rewashed. We are a family of five without a dishwasher and the bar of soap is lasting me abouth three weeks.

Danica... so nice of you to write in. More Lemon Bars are en route.
