WHAT DOES IT REPLACE? Big 16 oz. plastic bottles of expensive salon hair care products. HiBAR is plant-based and won't harm the water system, upstream or downstream. It's plastic-free. And because it's not a liquid soap, you're not shipping water across the nation or lugging big bottles home.
BORING (BUT USEFUL) STUFF
HiBAR sampler size minis = 1 oz
How to Shampoo: You can lather up in your hands and then into your hair or rub the angled side of HiBar on wet hair for a nice, all-over lather. Work into your hair and scalp. Rinse. How to Condition: Rub the angled side of the HiBar on wet hair. Gently work through your hair for a light, thorough coating. Wait a few minutes. Rinse.
Tips: Most people switch to HiBAR without any transition time. But for some, it can take a week or two for your scalp to adapt to the sulfate-free formulas.
There’s nothing wrong with mixing and matching products. For example, if you typically use the Volumize Bar, having a Maintain Bar on hand for an occasional deeper cleaning can work wonders.
Experiment with how often you wash. For example, sometimes, oily hair can be the result of TOO MUCH washing!
Once in a while, don’t shampoo at all, just use one of our conditioner bars. They each contain a tiny bit of surfactant, so they do have some cleaning capability, but not enough to interrupt with the conditioning process.
Remember – exfoliate! That is, when you’re washing, give your scalp a good massage with the tips of your fingers. This will clear your scalp of any dry skin or oily build up.
Store just like any bar soap, dry and away from direct water. It's designed to sit upright and shed water.
PACKAGING Zero-plastic packaging is recyclable and compostable. Printed with plant-based inks.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
We’ve all seen the depressing headlines. “Oceans predicted to have more plastic than fish by 2050.” And many of us have witnessed the mess first hand.
Well, a couple of years ago, four friends and fellow-optimists got talking one night and realized they’d all been working separately on the same project: getting rid of plastic in the bathroom.
So we officially banded together to re-engineer how people wash and care for their hair. After a lot of trial and error, working with a team of hair care professionals, HiBAR was born. Solid shampoos and conditioners that skip the need for plastic packaging. No plastic. Just beautiful hair. Huzzah! Plus it's made with love in Wisconsin.
Getting rid of plastic in your shower is one small step in the right direction. We hope you take it with us.
I'm giving 5 stars because they're light and perfect for travel. Note that my hair is dark, thick, and frizzy. It was also dyed pink at the time. I thought that all the pink that could leave my hair did before my vacation, but I did see quite a bit of pink when I used this shampoo and conditioner. I guess it's not great for color protection. That's ok though. It made it easier to go blonde afterword. :-) Normally I would bring bottles of color protection shampoo, but I preferred packing lightly for more room for souvenirs. Worth it. Would buy again, though I would bring heavy leave-in conditioner rather than just oil.
Julie, thank you for your detailed feedback. Each variety of HiBar is rated safe for dyed hair. We wonder whether hard or soft water make difference? We will share this with HIbar for their feedback. P.S. Love that your hair was pink. ;)

Perfect for Travel
This small pack is convenient to travel with, is lightweight, and includes a small paper wrapper that can be used to set the shampoo and conditioner on as it is air drying. The shampoo lather is plentiful, and the conditioner works well. Both have a light, pleasant scent. My travels lasted more than a week and I still have product left for my next trip. I would buy this pack again.
What an informative review, thank you! Hibar does dry fast and offers a good value...besides being good for you and the environment. ;)

Bar Shampoo and Conditioner
These work fine. The conditioner leaves me hair very soft, but a bit frizzy.
Glad to receive your feedback. Hmmmm... frizzy you say? I wonder if next time you try the curl, it's heavier and keeps straight hair and curly hair from frizzing.
