Carbon Neutral Shipping

What’s Good is super excited to announce carbon neutral shipping through our partnership with EcoCart — and our eco conscious customers. Instead of raising pricing or forcing a climate fee, we simply give you the option to choose to make your order carbon neutral. The option will automatically pop up in your cart at checkout, so you’ll have the opportunity to offset the carbon associated with producing and shipping your items, for a small fee. It will show you how many pounds of CO2 you’ll be offsetting, and which project your offset will be going towards. (You are, of course, able to opt out – we’re not here to judge your green journey, but rather to support it and offer options.) 

What’s Good does not earn a single penny on this! – 100% of the fee goes to EcoCart, and 90% of what they collect goes directly to the projects. This is a very high program efficiency – for reference, any non-profit with 75% program efficiency is considered good, so 90% for a not-just-for-profit business like EcoCart (and us!) is truly excellent.

HOW IT WORKS: 

• EcoCart’s rigorously researched and developed algorithm calculates the carbon emissions from both manufacturing and shipping by assessing product type, materials, weight, shipping distance, and more.

• If selected during checkout, a small fee (typically less than $1.50) is added to your order. 

• EcoCart directs these funds to certified carbon offset projects like planting trees or building wind farms. They select projects that are truly additive, permanent, and without unintended consequences (i.e., creating more carbon elsewhere, like a game of carbon Whack-A-Mole). All of EcoCart’s projects are carefully vetted, scientifically verified, and independently certified to internationally recognized standards. In addition, all projects include an element of social good, such as protecting endangered species or creating local jobs. (Intersectionality!)

WHY IT’S GOOD:

• For one, it’s easy and affordable! And you get to see how many pounds of greenhouse gas emissions you’re offsetting, and which project is being funded by your individual offset fee. 

• Transparency – you can check out the projects EcoCart funds and the details of each project’s impact here.

• Experts believe that 95% of the current warming trends are a result of human activity.

• 10% of CO2 emissions are caused by deforestation.

• It’s estimated that 1.6 billion people will be at risk of floods by 2050.

• 70% of extreme weather events were influenced by human activity.

CURRENT PROJECT – Amazon Rainforest Protection:

• 90% of Brazil’s Acre state is forested, but current rates of destruction mean that by 2030 this could decline to 65%.

• This project aims to prevent deforestation across 105,000 hectares of pristine rainforest in the Amazon basin, protecting some of the world’s most biodiverse habitats.

• The project works with communities and local groups to help protect the ecosystem while providing alternative models of economic development which avoid the destruction of the forest.
