“Women and girls make up more than half the world’s population —
and they are on the frontlines — often more deeply impacted than men
and boys by poverty, climate change, food insecurity, lack of healthcare,
and global economic crises. Their contributions and leadership
are central to finding a solution.”
– UN Women
As part of our commitment to being a not-just-for-profit business, What’s Good selects a different charity each month and donates a portion of every order we receive. This February & March, we are thrilled to work with Women’s Earth Alliance (WEA), which provides leadership, strategy, and technical training for women leaders to scale their climate and environmental initiatives while connecting them to a global alliance of peers, mentors, and funders.
WEA believes that when women thrive, communities, the environment, and future generations thrive.
Founded in 2006, WEA is a global organization that trains, resources, and catalyzes grassroots women’s networks to protect our environment and build healthy, safe, and just communities now and into the future. WEA designs capacity-building trainings where women leaders benefit from access to technology, economic development, financing, mentorship, and a global alliance.
In some of the most environmentally threatened places in the world, WEA leaders are defending forests and rivers, saving threatened indigenous seeds, launching sustainable farms, conserving coral reefs, and protecting land rights.
Since 2006, WEA’s signature approach has enabled over 12,645 women with technical, entrepreneurial, and leadership skills; and in turn, they are reaching over 13 million people in 24 countries with safe water, clean energy, regenerative farming, and climate change resilience. Their work is not charity. Instead, WEA links women who are already established as community leaders with the resources, training, funding, and partnerships they need to build thriving, healthy, and environmentally resilient communities.
WEA has catalyzed 35,000+ women-led initiatives in almost 30 countries (including he USA), which have in turn reached nearly 21 million people with life-saving climate solutions.
The WEA Model
Their model takes a different approach than investing in a well that might fail, leaving a community with neither water nor self reliance, or providing a one-time loan that could leave a woman in debt and without options.
WEA invests in instrumental women leaders working at the grassroots level to secure their communities’ natural resources, stability, and health.
With local leadership guiding each initiative, WEA designs capacity-building programs for women in environmentally threatened regions to access:
With these resources in hand, leaders launch their own income generating projects and train others to do the same. Research on health and climate crises alike increasingly support WEA’s model—training, resourcing, and connecting women leaders generates economic prosperity and planetary health that scale far beyond project investments.
We are inspired by the work Women's Earth Alliance is doing in North America and around the globe to shape a new model for environmental sustainability, gender equity, and ethical consumerism. We hope your What’s Good purchases make your heart full knowing that we’ll donate a portion of every order you place in February and March to support WEA.
If you’re new to What’s Good, this is just part of our giving program. We give 1% of our revenue to One Percent for the Planet in support of social and environmental causes; we donate a tree to our partner One Tree Planted for every used box you request to have your order shipped in; plus we sponsor many local HQ community programs. Together we do more good. Thank you!
