WHICH BAR IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Maintain Bars —Color safe, for normal hair. For people who wash their hair less frequently. For the gentle removal of product buildup. With honeyquat and shea butter for added shine. (Made with trace amounts of honey, so not vegan.) Moisturize Bars —Color safe, for thicker hair. For dry hair. For hair that typically needs extra conditioning. If your hair is more porous, alternate the Maintain Bar set. Corrects moisture deficiency and improves manageability. With coconut oil and rice protein to hydrate and nourish. Vegan.
Moisturize Fragrance-Free Bars — All of the formulations are subtle, however, sometimes no fragrance is best. Color safe and guaranteed to leave you with softy and silky hair.
Volumize Bars —Color safe, for thin, fine or lifeless hair. Brings body and fullness without adding weight. Controls frizz and flyaway. With African dates and Vitamin B5 for added definition to curls and waves. Vegan.
Soothe Bars — Soothe will be for anyone having a scalp issue, from dandruff to psoriasis. Once cleared, use any formulation for your hair, and go back to Soothe as necessary. Color-safe, leaves hair soft and manageable, with white willow bark extract & Kukui nut oil to sooth itchy, flaky scalps.
CURLY HAIR? HiBAR recommends the Moisture Bar, however, some curly heads swear by mixing it up with Moisture Shampoo and Volumize Conditioner. Your call. WHAT DOES IT REPLACE? Big 16 oz. plastic bottles of expensive salon hair care products. HiBAR is plant-based and won't harm the water system, upstream or downstream. It's plastic-free. And because it's not a liquid soap, you're not shipping water across the nation or lugging big bottles home.
BORING (BUT USEFUL) STUFF
Contains 3 mini bars.
How to Shampoo: You can lather up in your hands and then into your hair or rub the angled side of HiBar on wet hair for a nice, all-over lather. Work into your hair and scalp. Rinse.
How to Condition: Rub the angled side of the HiBar on wet hair. Gently work through your hair for a light, thorough coating. Wait a few minutes. Rinse.
Tips: Most people switch to HiBAR without any transition time. But for some, it can take a week or two for your scalp to adapt to the sulfate-free formulas.
There’s nothing wrong with mixing and matching products. For example, if you typically use the Volumize Bar, having a Maintain Bar on hand for an occasional deeper cleaning can work wonders.
Experiment with how often you wash. For example, sometimes, oily hair can be the result of TOO MUCH washing!
Once in a while, don’t shampoo at all, just use one of our conditioner bars. They each contain a tiny bit of surfactant, so they do have some cleaning capability, but not enough to interrupt with the conditioning process.
Remember – exfoliate! That is, when you’re washing, give your scalp a good massage with the tips of your fingers. This will clear your scalp of any dry skin or oily build up.
Store just like any bar soap, dry and away from direct water. It's designed to sit upright and shed water.
INGREDIENTS All pigments are natural and approved by Cosmos and Ecocert.
PACKAGING Zero-plastic packaging is recyclable and compostable. Printed with plant-based inks.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
We’ve all seen the depressing headlines.
“Oceans predicted to have more plastic than fish by 2050.”
And many of us have witnessed the mess first hand.
Well, a couple of years ago, four friends and fellow-optimists got talking one night and realized they’d all been working separately on the same project: getting rid of plastic in the bathroom.
So we officially banded together to re-engineer how people wash and care for their hair. After a lot of trial and error, working with a team of hair care professionals, HiBAR was born. Solid shampoos and conditioners that skip the need for plastic packaging. No plastic. Just beautiful hair. Huzzah!
We’re really proud of HiBAR. It feels and smells lovely, cares for your hair as well as a bottled salon product, and it’s free of chemical nasties.
Plus it's made with love in Wisconsin.
Getting rid of plastic in your shower is one small step in the right direction. We hope you take it with us.
Love not having plastic containers! Leaves hair soft and shiny - thank you for offering a great product !
So glad you like it as much as we do. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions. Here's a tip: when you get down to the little itty-bitty bits... you can still use them, just put them in a soap saver bag. Thank you for taking this plastic-free journey!

Difficult to tell apart and harsh
I’m very happy with the packaging, and love that these sud so nicely. But I have a couple issues that will likely keep me from ordering again.
First, the colors of the shampoo and conditioner bars are way too similar for two of the three varieties. Once they’re out of the box, I can’t tell them apart and have hope I remember which one I placed where in my shower.
Second, I have been using “low-poo” and bar shampoos for a couple years now, so I’m familiar with how some can feel different, and may take some adjusting; but I find these to be quite harsh. The “maintenance” combo leaves my hair feeling completely stripped, and I have to put hair oil or leave in conditioner in after washing, or my hair tangles and snags constantly, which thankfully has never been a problem for my hair. It was bad enough, between the stripped feeling and the trouble telling them apart visually, that I really wonder if I ended up with another shampoo bar in the conditioner box!
The “moisturizing” bars are better, but I still felt I needed to use a bit of oil after my hair dried, based on how dry it felt.
I haven’t tried the “volumize” bars yet, but if “moisturize,” did’t feel great, I don’t have high hopes.
There's so much good here. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
The little mini samples can be tough to tell apart, their larger versions are easier because of the surface area. The shampoos are more mottled, and the conditioners more solid in color. And as you said, the shampoos lather and the conditioner doesn't.
Sounds like you're a seasoned 'poo' user, though we wonder if you might use the moisturize a little longer and see how that goes, or use less of the shampoo and only on the roots not all over your hair? In upstate NY where the humidity is high, our testers didn't experience this, however, so much depends on the water, the region, the hair type, etc. Did you read our Q & A blog about Hibar? We'll keep our fingers crossed that by the time they're used up, you'll like them better. Note: we are looking at offering additional soap bar brands (because we like to offer choices), any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks again for taking the time.
